What should I bring to my first session?
If possible, it is recommended that you and /or an important other attend the session with your child. If both parents/ carers can attend and see how the child performs and listen to the interpretations and recommendations made, this often helps both carers understand the learning difficulty and be involved in the treatment process from the outset. However, it is appreciated that it often hard for even one parent to attend. Please note that more than 2 adults and the therapist in the session can be overwhelming for the child.
It is preferable that you do not bring any other children to the session. However, it is understood that it is often difficult to access baby-sitters and that speech therapy is quite expensive enough without additional child care costs. If your other child/children have to attend please bring along any favourite quiet toys or gadgets that may entertain them for 30 minutes.
You need to bring with you:-
Arrive on Time
Please arrive on time. If you arrive late, your session will end at the scheduled time and you will be charged for a full session. Sessions are generally booked in every 30 minutes. No parent likes to wait and most children loathe waiting, so good time keeping is appreciated by everyone.
Parking
Parking is available on Houghton Drive on the verge or driveway (54 Golf Links Drive is on the corner of Golf Links Drive and Houghton Drive). Please enter through the back gate, walk along the verandah and enter quietly through the door with the WELCOME sign or sit on the verandah. Please enter quietly and take a seat as a therapy session is most likely to be wrapping up.
If you have any further queries on concerns please drop us an e-mail message or ring.

You need to bring with you:-
- Something from home that your child really likes and would like to talk about, e.g. favourite toys, family /pet photos etc
- Completed Parent Online Questionnaire (available on the parent online questionnaire link). If unable to answer any questions, please discuss at the session. Please submit this form on-line, preferably 1 week before the assessment session.
- Any relevant medical or educational reports if you have them e.g. recent school reports, medical or allied health/specialist reports.
- For Grade 1 + students a copy of an unedited written work sample from class writing, if spelling or writing is an issue.
- Any questions that you would like to have answered.
- If your child is very shy or anxious and you suspect he or she may not talk in the session it would be very helpful if you jot down at least 10 of your child's longest sentences as they say them or you can record some brief footage of them talking at home, e.g. on your phone etc , this will prove to be very useful.
- Any relevant funding paperwork, e.g. Medicare forms if GP or paediatrician has approved funding.
- Payment - please note no electronic payment facilities are available

What to bring to any subsequent sessions:-
- Your WASP speech pathology file including communication book, completed home work record and all homework activities/loan materials.
- Any comments, queries, concerns, progress observed - jot these down in the communication book so they can be addressed at the beginning of the session.
- A positive attitude to the speech pathology process. Sometimes the journey is brief and full of success but sometimes it is long and at times it can be hard and exhausting for all involved. However, if we are committed to the process and persevere and problem-solve together and our expectations are realistic and broken into series of achievable steps, we will achieve success.
